These cabbage rolls are so good that you will love them with just one bite! Invite your friends over and surprise them with these delicious treats. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
For the sauce:
One 8 oz. can of tomato sauce
1 tbsp white vinegar
1 can diced tomatoes 14.5 oz., undrained
¼ c water
2 tbsp brown sugar
For the Filling:
½ c onion chopped fine
2 tsp minced garlic
1 lb. ground beef
1 tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp oregano
½ tsp dill
1 Egg
1 c cooked rice
¼ c of the sauce that has been mixed together
1 head green cabbage
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
Directions:
1. Slice the cabbage to about 1/4-inch cuts.
2. Place a large pot with water on the stove and turn the heat to high. Allow the water to boil.
3. Add the cabbage slices into the boiling water, then cook the cabbage slices for about 2 minutes.
4. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage with tongs.
5. Remove the cabbage from the pot and transfer them into a large bowl.
6. Prepare the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
7. Add all the ingredients for the sauce into a mixing bowl. Stir until well blended.
8. Add a bit of sauce into a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread it evenly.
9. Place a large skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
10. Add the ground beef and cook until brown.
11. Add the oregano, parsley, onions, salt, and pepper. Sauté until soft and aromatic.
12. Add the garlic and sauté until aromatic.
13. Remove the skillet from the stove, then add 1/4 cup of mixed tomato sauce, egg, and cooked rice. Stir until well combined.
14. Create a “V” shape to the bottom of each cabbage leaf.
15. Add about 1/3 of the filling in the centre of the cabbage leaf. Fold and roll. Repeat the process with the rest of the ingredients.
16. Arrange the cabbage rolls into the prepared baking dish.
17. Pour the rest of the sauce on top of the rolls and spread it evenly.
18. Cover the rolls with aluminium foil.
19. Place them inside the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour and 30 minutes or until done.
20. Remove from the oven and allow them to rest completely at room temperature.
21. Serve and enjoy!
