These meatballs smothered in a delicious sauce will surely make your day extra special! Serve these over rice or mashed potatoes, and you have yourself a meal to remember. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
FOR THE MEATBALLS
1 large Egg, beaten
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, for baking sheet
1 pound ground chicken
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup shredded Gruyere
2 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
FOR THE SAUCE
1 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 tablespoons butter
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 cups low-sodium beef broth
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons freshly chopped thyme, plus more for garnish
Directions:
1. Prepare the oven and preheat to 218 degrees C or 425 degrees F.
2. Line with aluminium foil a large baking sheet, then apply cooking spray on it.
For the Meatballs:
1. Add the Gruyere, ground chicken, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper into a mixing bowl. Use your clean hands to mix everything until well combined.
2. Shape the mixture into 16 even meatballs.
3. Arrange then meatballs onto the prepared baking sheet.
4. Place them inside the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
For the Sauce:
1. Place a large skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
2. Add butter and allow it to melt.
3. Add the onions and sauté until caramelized. This usually takes about 25 minutes.
4. Add the garlic and sauté until aromatic.
5. Add the thyme, broth, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed.
6. Allow the mixture to boil, then turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 10 minutes or until the texture of the sauce becomes thick.
7. Add the meatballs into the skillet as well as the Gruyere. Toss until well coated by the delicious sauce. Simmer for another
5 minutes or until the cheese has melted completely.
8. Remove from the heat and sprinkle freshly chopped thyme on top.
9. Serve and enjoy!
