Quality dish in the comfort of your home! It only takes 40 minutes of your precious time to make this Skillet Chicken in Balsamic Caramelized Onion Cream Sauce! The sauce alone is more than enough to let you know that you are in for a treat. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 c finely chopped onions
4 tbsp butter
4 small boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
4 tsp of balsamic vinegar
1 tsp fresh thyme
1 c EACH: chicken broth AND heavy cream
salt and pepper
A pinch of red pepper flakes
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Directions:
For the Chicken:
1. Sprinkle garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the chicken breast, then toss until all sides are well coated.
2. Place a large skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.
3. Add oil and allow it to become hot.
4. Add the chicken, then cook all sides for about 6 to 12 minutes or until done. Transfer onto a clean plate.
For the Onions:
1. In the same skillet, add butter and allow it to melt.
2. Add onions, then cook for about 12 to 15 minutes or until caramelized.
3. Add red pepper flakes, thyme, balsamic vinegar, and sugar. Stir until well blended. Simmer for a few minutes.
For the Sauce:
1. Add the chicken broth into the skillet, then whisk until well blended. Scrape the bottom of the skillet to get the browned bits.
2. Turn the heat up to high, then simmer the sauce for about 3 minutes or until the texture becomes thick.
3. Reduce the heat to low, then add cream and stir until well blended. Bring to a gentle simmer.
4. Add the chicken, then toss until well coated by the delicious sauce.
5. Serve right away and enjoy!
