Ingredients:
Stir Fry
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 pound broccoli florets
1 pound flank steak/skirt steak
½ tsp grated ginger
3 garlic cloves – peeled and thinly sliced
1 tbsp baking soda
¼ c water
Sauce
2 tsp sesame oil
4 tsp cornstarch
4 tsp light brown sugar
⅓ c water
½ tbsp hoisin sauce
½ c oyster sauce
½ tsp black pepper
2 tbsp Chinese cooking wine
Garnish
1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
Directions:
1. Cut through the grain of the beef and slice it into 1/4-inch-thick pieces.
2. Add beef slice into a non-metal mixing bowl.
3. Sprinkle baking soda over the beef pieces and use your hands to coat them well. Let the beef rest for at least 15 minutes.
4. Rinse the beef with water, then use paper towels to pat them dry.
To Make the Sauce:
1. In a mixing bowl, add cornstarch and water. Stir until well mixed.
2. Add sugar, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cooking wine, black pepper, and hoisin sauce. Stir until well blended. Set it aside.
To Steam the Broccoli:
1. Place a nonstick skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
2. Add 1/4 cup of hot water and broccoli. Cover the skillet with a lid, then steam the broccoli for about 2 minutes.
3. Remove from the skillet onto a clean plate.
To Cook/Stir Fry:
1. Place a skillet on the stove and turn the heat to high.
2. Add oil and allow it to become hot.
3. Arrange the beef to one side of the skillet and cook for about a minute.
4. Add the broccoli and stir until well combined with the beef.
5. Add the grated ginger and garlic. Sauté until aromatic.
6. Add the sauce and stir until well blended.
7. Allow the mixture to simmer for about a minute or until the texture becomes thick.
8. Remove from the heat and garnish with sesame seeds on top.
9. Serve and enjoy!
