Ingredients

Navy beans

  • 1 lb washed navy beans

Vegetables

  • smoked ham bone
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4-5 cups water

Instructions

  • Place washed navy beans into the crockpot.
  • Add chopped carrots, celery, onion, minced garlic, and bay leaves.
  • Pour water and season with pepper.
  • Add the smoked ham bone.
  • Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  • Remove the ham bone, shred the meat, and return it to the soup.
  • Mix well and serve warm.

Notes

For leftovers, store the soup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Freezing is also an option for longer storage. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave.
