Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 4 oz German baking chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and grease a 13x18-inch sheet pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and cocoa powder.
  • In a saucepan, melt water, butter, shortening, and chocolate. Pour into dry ingredients and whisk.
  • Whisk in buttermilk, baking soda, salt, eggs, and vanilla until smooth. Pour into the pan.
  • Bake for 20-22 minutes. Allow the cake to cool completely.
