Ingredients

  • Shortening
  • Molasses
  • Spices (ground cloves, ginger, cinnamon)
  • All-Purpose Flour

Instructions

  • Cream shortening and sugar. Blend until smooth.
  • Add molasses and blend well.
  • Add egg and beat until smooth.
  • Sift together flour, soda, salt, and spices. Mix with wet ingredients.
  • Form into 1" balls and roll in sugar.
  • Flatten the balls slightly on a cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
  • Cool on toweling or wire racks.

Notes

To keep these cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They can also be frozen for longer storage. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven for a few minutes until warm and fragrant.
