Main Ingredients

  • 3 slices bacon
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cans (16 oz each) pork and beans
  • 1/2 cup root beer (not diet)
  • 1/4 cup smoky BBQ sauce
  • 1/8 tsp hot sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cook the bacon until crispy. Reserve 2 tablespoons of drippings for sautéing the onions.
  • Sauté the diced onion in the reserved bacon drippings until tender and translucent.
  • In a greased baking dish, combine the cooked onions, chopped bacon, pork and beans, root beer, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce. Mix well.
  • Bake uncovered for 55 minutes or until the beans are bubbly and caramelized on top.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a flavorful BBQ side dish.

Notes

For leftovers, store the beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. Alternatively, freeze them for up to three months, reheating as needed with a splash of water or root beer.
