Equipment

  • Wooden Board or Serving Platter
  • Cheese Knives
  • Small Serving Bowls

Ingredients

Cheeses

  • 4 oz Brie or Camembert soft, creamy option
  • 4 oz Aged cheddar or Gouda firm option
  • 4 oz Blue cheese or Gorgonzola bold flavor
  • 4 oz Fresh goat cheese tangy option

Fresh Fruits

  • 1 cup Fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup Green and red grapes
  • 1 Peach or nectarine sliced
  • 1/2 Apple or pear sliced
  • 1/4 cup Blueberries

Nuts and Dried Fruits

  • 1/3 cup Marcona almonds or regular almonds
  • 1/4 cup Walnuts
  • 1/3 cup Dried apricots
  • 1/4 cup Dried cranberries

Accompaniments

  • 1 small jar Honey with dipper
  • 1 small jar Fig jam or apricot preserves
  • Assorted crackers and sliced baguette
  • Fresh herb sprigs mint, rosemary, or thyme for garnish

Instructions

  • Select a wooden board, slate, or large serving platter about 16-18 inches in diameter. Ensure it's clean and food-safe.
  • Place your cheese selections at different points around the board, creating anchor positions. For best flavor, remove cheeses from refrigeration 30-45 minutes before serving.
  • Position your washed and prepared fruits in clusters between the cheeses. Create color contrast by placing red strawberries near light-colored cheeses and keeping similar colors separated.
  • Fill remaining spaces with small piles of nuts and dried fruits. Create small "rivers" of almonds or walnuts that connect different sections of your board for visual flow.
  • Place small bowls or jars of honey and preserves on the board. Arrange crackers and bread along the edges or in a separate basket if space is limited. Tuck herb sprigs between items for a fresh pop of color and aroma.

Notes

The beauty of a Cheese & Fruit Board is its efficiency - in just half an hour, you'll create an impressive spread that would take 3-4 times longer if preparing multiple hot appetizers. For best results, serve cheeses at room temperature where their flavors truly shine. You can prepare components up to 24 hours ahead and store separately, but assemble shortly before serving for best presentation.
