Ingredients
2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus more for frying
1 lb. skirt steak, sliced thinly (or use flank steak or beef tenderloin)
1 c. cornstarch
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 large white onion, finely chopped
1 1/2 c. carrots, julienned (you can also use grated or shredded carrots)
1/2 c. light soy sauce
2 tbsp vinegar (rice vinegar or white vinegar)
1/2 c. brown sugar, lightly packed
2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
1 tbsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 c. green onions, thinly sliced
1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
1/2 tsp dried red chili flakes
How to make 30 Minute Ginger Beef
Step 1: In a large bowl, toss the steak with cornstarch. Set aside.
Step 2: To a saute pan, add the vegetable oil and onions. Saute over medium heat for 2 minutes until the onions are translucent. Then, add the carrots and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes until tender. Add the garlic along with the ginger and chili flakes. Stir and cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes. Next, stir in the soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, brown sugar, and sesame seeds.
Step 3: Decrease the heat and let everything simmer until the sauce has slightly thickened.
Step 4: Meanwhile, add 2 to 3 cups vegetable oil in a deep skillet and bring it to optimum frying temperature. Shake off the excess cornstarch and add the beef to the skillet. Fry each piece in batches for about 3 to 4 minutes until crispy. On paper towels, transfer the fried beef.
Step 5: Into the sauce mixture, toss the fried beef. Before serving, garnish the ginger beef with some green onions. Enjoy!
