Ingredients:
Tomato Sauce:
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 onion (diced)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
28 oz can crushed tomatoes (do not drain)
15 oz can tomato sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried Italian herbs
Cabbage Rolls:
1 lb ground beef (leaner is better)
1 c cooked rice (white or brown)
1 tbsp onion powder
4 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dried Italian herbs
1/4 c fresh parsley (chopped)
1 Egg
1 head cabbage
Directions:
For the Tomato Sauce:
1. Put a large pot on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
2. Add olive oil and allow it to become hot.
3. Add the onion and saute until soft.
4. Add the garlic and saute until aromatic.
5. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Italian herbs, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed, then allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes. Make sure to stir from time to time.
For the Cabbage Rolls:
1. Put a large pot with water on the stove and turn the heat to high. Allow the water to boil.
2. Prepare the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
3. Add the cabbage into the boiling water, then cook for about 5 minutes.
4. Remove the cabbage from the hot water, then disassemble it to get about 12 large leaves.
5. Add ground beef, rice, garlic, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, Italian herbs, egg, 2 tbsp fresh parsley, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Stir until well combined.
6. Add half of the tomato sauce and stir until well blended.
7. Place a cabbage leaf onto a cutting board remove the thick part on the bottom.
8. Get 1/3 cup of the meat mixture, then form it into a ball shape.
9. Put it in the middle of the cabbage leaf, then roll it. Repeat the process to the rest of the cabbage leaves and meat mixture.
To Bake:
1. Apply cooking spray in a 9×13-inch pan.
2. Spread 1/2 of the tomato sauce onto the bottom part.
3. Place the cabbage rolls over the sauce, then top them with the rest of the sauce.
4. Cover the rolls with aluminium foil.
5. Place them inside the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour and 30 minutes or until done.
6. Remove from the oven and garnish with more parsley.
7. Serve hot and enjoy!
