Trust me when I say that this will be the best pie you will ever have! This recipe is very simple and I know that you are going to enjoy preparing it! The combination of all the ingredients complements very well with each other. A must-try indeed!
Ingredients:
1 single pie crust
For the filling:
1 3/4 c buttermilk
3 large Eggs
1 c granulated sugar, divided
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
5 c (about 2 pounds) apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith works well)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
For the topping:
3 tbsp chilled butter, cut into small cubes
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/3 c brown sugar
1/3 c all-purpose flour
Directions:
For the Crust:
1. Prepare the oven and preheat to 162 degrees C or 325 degrees F.
2. Unroll the dough into a 14-inch round shape and put it into a 9-inch-deep dish pie pan. Use your fingers to fold the sides.
3. Place the crust inside the fridge to chill.
For the Filling:
1. Apply cooking spray to a large nonstick skillet. Place it on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
2. Add nutmeg, apples, cinnamon, and 1/4 cup of sugar. Stir and cook for 10 minutes or until the apples are soft.
3. Transfer the mixture to the prepared crust and spread it evenly.
4. Add flour, eggs, salt, vanilla, buttermilk, and sugar. Whisk until well blended.
5. Pour the mixture on top of the apple mixture and spread it evenly.
For the Topping:
1. Add cinnamon, 1/3 cup of flour, and brown sugar into a mixing bowl. Whisk until well mixed. Add butter and beat until well incorporated.
2. Sprinkle the mixture over the pie.
3. Turn the heat of the oven down to about 300 degrees F.
4. Place the pie inside the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes or until done.
5. Remove from the oven and allow it cool for at least an hour at room temperature. Slice into even servings.
6. Serve and enjoy!
