Ingredients
1 turkey (8 to 24 lbs), thawed, giblets and neck removed, rinsed, and dried
1 oven (19×23 ½-inch) roasting bag
3 carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
2 tbsp butter, melted
4-6 cloves garlic, peeled
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp poultry seasoning
1 large onion, quartered
½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp ground ginger
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tbsp coarse salt
1 tsp black pepper
How to make Turkey In A Roasting Bag
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: Place the salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, ground ginger, and dried thyme in a medium-sized bowl. Mix well until blended and set aside.
Step 3: Inside the roasting bag, place the flour and shake. In a large 2-inch deep roasting pan, place the bag. In the bottom of the roasting bag, place the onion wedges, garlic cloves, and carrot pieces.
Step 4: Next, rub the entire turkey with the melted butter and seasoning mix.
Step 5: Into the bag, place the turkey. Let it rest on top of the onions and carrots. Make sure that the opening face one end of the roasting pan and not upwards. Close the bag, then seal using cooking twine. On top of the roasting bag, cut about 4 to 6 slits.
Step 6: Place in the oven and bake according to the weight of the turkey.
Turkey Cooking Times:
8-12 pounds turkeys – 1.5-2 hours
12-16 pounds turkeys – 2-2.5 hours
16-20 pounds turkeys – 2.5-3 hours
20-24 pounds turkeys – 3-3.5 hours
Step 7: Take the turkey out of the oven once the internal temperature of the thickest part reaches 180 degrees F. Let the turkey rest in the bag for about 15 minutes. This will let the juices settle back into the turkey.
Step 8: Lift the turkey from the bag using a carving fork and transfer it to a carving board. Carve the turkey and serve. Enjoy!
