My family’s favorite! Crispy chicken coated in a sticky Asian sauce. So much better than takeout and super easy to make at home!
INGREDIENTS
3 chicken breast fillets – chopped into bite-size chunks
5 tablespoons Vegetable oil
2 eggs – lightly beaten
10 tablespoons plain (all-purpose) flour
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons paprika
3 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch)
½ teaspoon pepper
½ teaspoon garlic salt
Sauce:
2 cloves garlic – peeled and minced
1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional) – or omit and just sprinkle with sesame seeds at the end if desired
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Chinese rice vinegar – or use white wine vinegar
3 tablespoons ketchup
4 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce – adjust on how spicy you like it
To Serve:
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
Small bunch of spring onions/scallions – chopped
Boiled rice
How to make Crispy Sesame Chicken with a Sticky Asian Sauce
Step 1: In a wok or large frying pan, heat the oil.
Step 2: In the meantime, place the egg in a shallow bowl. In another shallow bowl, place the cornflour. In a third shallow bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, garlic salt, and paprika.
Step 3: In the cornflour, dredge the chicken. Dip the chicken in the egg, coating all sides, then dredge in the seasoned flour. Once the oil is very hot, add the chicken to the wok and cook for about 6 to 7 minutes over high heat, turning about 2 to 3 times during cooking until all sides are browned. In a bowl lined with kitchen towels, transfer the cooked chicken.
Step 4: In the same wok, add the sauce ingredients. Stir well and let it boil over high heat for about 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce is reduced by a third. Return the chicken to the wok and toss to coat. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 5: Between four bowls, divide the chicken and serve with boiled rice topped with sesame seeds and spring onions. Enjoy!
NOTES:
If you prefer extra sauce, simply double the ingredients.
Serve the Crispy Sesame Chicken with a Sticky Asian Sauce with boiled rice or fried rice.
