Craving for a moist, chocolatey cake but don’t have an oven? Not a problem! You can satisfy your sweet tooth with this quick and simple recipe, which doesn’t require creaming or much baking experience. All you need is a bowl and a microwave.
Ingredients
For the cake (using a 9 or 10-inch cake tin):
– 220 grams (1 1/2 cups) All-Purpose Flour
– 85 grams (2/3 cup) Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
– 150 grams (3/4 cup) Sugar
– 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
– 130 ml (1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon) Oil or melted butter
– 550 ml (1 3/4 cups + 2 tablespoons) Warm Water
For the frosting:
– 400 grams (3 1/4 cups) Powdered Sugar
– 80 grams (2/3 cups) Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
– 150 grams (1 1/3 sticks) Softened Butter
– 100 ml (1/3 cups + 1 1/2 tablespoons) Boiling Water
– 60 grams (2 ounces) Melted Dark Chocolate (75% cocoa)
– 1/2 teaspoon Salt
Procedure
- Start by sifting together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder in a mixing bowl. This will ensure that all the dry ingredients are well combined.
- Next, add the oil and warm water to the mixture. The warm water will help to bloom the cocoa powder, resulting in a more intense chocolate flavor. Stir everything until well mixed, ensuring there are no lumps left. The batter should be runny and smooth.
- Prepare a microwave-safe dish or bowl by lining the bottom with parchment paper. Grease and flour the sides to prevent the cake from sticking.
- Microwave the cake for about 5 minutes. Depending on your microwave’s power and the dish you’re using, the cooking time may vary. Start checking the cake after the third minute. The cake is done when the top is springy to the touch, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the dish for about 5 minutes. Then, use a spatula to loosen the sides of the cake from the dish, and turn it over onto a rack or cutting board.
- For the frosting, use your favorite recipe or the one provided above. Spread the frosting on the top and sides of the cake. Let it chill for at least five minutes before slicing.
Enjoy your moist and delicious microwave-baked cake. You’ll be amazed at the fantastic results you can achieve with just a microwave and a few simple ingredients!
**Note**: If you’re using a smaller container (7-8 inches), cut the recipe in half and check the cake after 3 minutes. Also, this cake is not suitable for refrigeration.
