Baking the perfect sweet potato is easier than you might think. This recipe is a fool-proof step-by-step method for the perfect baked sweet potatoes.
These baked potatoes are sweet and fluffy on the inside with a crisp skin. They are excellent to serve on any occasion and pair well with just about anything. To serve, you can either go sweet or savory depending on how you like your baked sweet potatoes.
For best results, make sure to choose sweet potatoes roughly the same size so they cook all at the same time. Before serving, allow the potatoes to cool for about 5 minutes. If you prefer savory sweet potatoes, top them with butter, salt, and pepper or sour cream. If you are like me who loves the sweet version, top the baked sweet potatoes with butter, brown sugar, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt
4 sweet potatoes medium size, long and thin
How to make Baked Sweet Potato
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 400 degrees F.
Step 2: Using parchment paper or foil, line a large baking sheet and set aside.
Step 3: After washing the sweet potatoes, completely dry them. Using a fork, poke a few holes in each potato.
Step 4: Drizzle the sweet potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Carefully massage the olive oil and salt on the sweet potato skin to ensure the entire potato is covered.
Step 5: On the prepared baking sheet, place the sweet potatoes. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
Step 6: Remove from the oven when done and allow the potatoes to cool for about 5 minutes before splitting them open. Serve the baked sweet potato with your preferred toppings. Enjoy!
