Chargrilled Oysters are packed with lemony, garlicky, butter sauce. Then, topped with melted cheese. They are grilled to perfection. Serve these chargrilled oysters with crusty bread to scoop up all of the delicious buttery sauce.
These oysters are also excellent to bake. If it is too cold outside, you can just pop them in the oven and bake them. If you desire that same smoky char-grilled flavor, it’s simple! Just add a couple of drops of the liquid smoke to the butter mixture.
2 cloves garlic, grated
2 tbsp lemon juice (1/2 lemon)
1 stick butter, room temperature or melted
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c. pecorino Romano or parmigiano Reggiano (Parmesan), grated
1 tbsp parsley, chopped
2 tbsp parsley, chopped
12 oysters on the half shell
1/2 c. pecorino Romano or parmigiano Reggiano (Parmesan), grated
salt, pepper, and cayenne to taste
How to make Chargrilled Oysters
Step 1: Combine the butter, garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, cheese, salt, pepper, cayenne, and parsley until well blended. Set aside.
Step 2: On a preheated 350 degrees F or 180 degrees C grill, cook the oyster until the juice begins to bubble. Onto each oyster, spoon 1 tbsp each of the butter mixture and sprinkle with cheese. Cook them further until the cheese is golden brown.
Step 3: Serve the oyster right away garnished with some parsley, extra butter, lemon wedges, and hot sauce. Enjoy them with bread!
You can also bake the oyster. On a baking sheet, place the oysters. Into each oyster, spoon 1 tbsp of the butter mixture and top with cheese. Bake in a preheated 400 degrees F oven for about 5 minutes until the juices start to bubbly. Set the oven to broil for 2 to 3 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown. You can add a couple of drops of the liquid smoke to the butter mixture if you desire a smoky char-grilled flavor.
