5 lbs Russet potatoes sliced 1/8″ thick
2 cups onions chopped small
6 cloves garlic minced
¼ cup butter (½ stick)
¼ cup flour
1 ½ cups vegetable broth
1 ½ cups heavy cream
1 Tbs salt
2 tsp pepper
2 tsp Slap Ya Mama® seasoning
8 oz sour cream
3 cups cheddar cheese grated, divided
1 cup pepper jack cheese grated
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Step 1: Prepare the oven and preheat to 200 degrees C or 400 degrees F.
Step 2: Apply cooking spray in a 14x11x2-inch baking dish.
Step 3: Peel the potatoes and slice them into thin slices. Place the potato slices in a large bowl.
Step 4: Place a large frying pan on the stove and turn the heat to low.
Step 5: Add the butter and allow it to melt.
Step 6: Add the garlic and onions. Saute’ for 5 minutes or until the garlic is aromatic and onions are translucent.
Step 7: Add in flour and stir for 5 minutes or until thick.
Step 8: Add the vegetable broth. Stir until well blended and season with heavy cream, salt, and pepper to taste.
Step 9: Remove from the heat and add 2 cups of Cheddar cheese, then stir until well mixed.
Step 10: Arrange 1/3 of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Step 11: Spread 1/3 of the cheese sauce and 1/3 of the sour cream on top of the potatoes. Repeat this method to the rest of the ingredients.
Step 12: Top it with the rest of the Cheddar cheese.
Step 13: A cover baking dish with aluminium foil.
Step 14: Place it inside the oven and bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Step 15: Remove the cover and bake for another 20 minutes or until the cheese turns golden brown.
Step 16: Remove from the oven and allow it to cool at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
Step 17: Serve and enjoy!
The cooking time will depend on the thickness of the sliced potatoes.
