This casserole is filled with all of my must-have breakfast food. It is super easy to make, and you can even assemble this in advance and store it in the fridge or freeze it for later. If desired, you can spit the casserole between two pans, bake one immediately, and freeze the other. Serve this breakfast casserole for breakfast or brunch. This casserole is also great to enjoy on potlucks and tailgating.
Ingredients
8 eggs
2 pounds of hot breakfast sausage
1 (30-32 ounces) bag of frozen shredded hash browns
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
¼ teaspoon onion powder
2 (8 ounces) packages of cream cheese, room temperature
2 c. milk
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
How to make Sausage, Egg, And Cream Cheese Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Cook the sausage in a large skillet until brown. Drain the grease when done.
Step 3: Combine the cooked sausage and cream cheese, then set aside.
Step 4: In the now-empty skillet, cook the hash browns until lightly browned. In the bottom of a lightly greased 9 x 13-inch pan, transfer the hash browns and top with the sausage/cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Step 5: Mix the eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and milk. Then, pour this on top of the hash brown mixture. If baking later, cover the dish and place it in the fridge.
Step 6: When serving right away, place in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 to 15 minutes, uncovered.
Notes:
You can assemble the casserole in advance and store it in the fridge overnight or freeze it.
When ready to serve, thaw the frozen casserole in the fridge overnight and bake as instructed.
If desired, you can split the casserole between two pans. Bake one right away and freeze the other one.
Feel free to substitute turkey sausage with pork sausage.
For this recipe, I used Jimmy Dean’s hot sausage.
