Ingredients
1 stick melted butter
5 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
Pinch kosher salt
Confectioners’ sugar, for serving (optional)
1 loaf challah bread, sliced 1-inch thick
How to make Creme Brulee French Toast
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375 degrees F.
Step 2: Place the melted butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup in a small bowl. Mix well until combined. Into a large tall baking dish, pour the mixture, spreading it into an even layer with a spatula. On top, arrange the bread in a single layer.
Step 3: Whisk the eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl until well blended. Then, pour this on top of the bread. If time permits, tent the dish and let it sit for at least 1 hour up to overnight. If serving right away, place in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes or until the butter-sugar mixture is bubbling.
Step 4: Remove from the oven when done and serve the Creme Brulee French Toast right away, sugar side up. If desired, sift powdered sugar on top. Enjoy!
