Crockpot Ham, Green Beans, and Potatoes are simple dishes that you can quickly put together. Delicious, and hearty, and the flavors meld perfectly.
In this recipe, I recommend fresh green beans. You can use frozen green beans, but do not use canned ones as they will get mushy when cooked. Although, if you still prefer to use canned green beans, you can add them in the last 30 minutes of cook time. You’ll absolutely love the mix of flavors in this green beans, potatoes, and ham recipe. This also has a touch of cinnamon and cloves. Also, thyme pairs well with green beans.
36 oz. green beans, fresh or frozen, in bite-size pieces
1 lb. ham hock
4 large potatoes, yellow or red, skin on, cut into bite-size chunks
1 tablespoon thyme, dry
3 c. water
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
Oil, just a drizzle, about 1-2 tbsp
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt, more to taste
How to make Crockpot Ham, Green Beans, and Potatoes
Step 1: Place the ham hock (or ham chunks) in the bottom of the crockpot. On top, add the green beans, water, and potato chunks. Next, add the thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, cloves, and cinnamon. Mix well and drizzle with a little oil (about 1 to 2 tsp).
Step 2: Cover and set to cook on high for 4 hours or 6 to 7 hours on low.
Step 3: Take the ham hock out of the crockpot once the green beans and potatoes are done. Allow the ham hock to cool before chopping it.
Step 4: Set the crockpot in a warm setting while chopping the ham chunks.
Step 5: Serve right away. Enjoy!
To prevent the green beans from getting mushy, make sure not to overcook them.
I recommend keeping the slices of the potatoes to 1 inch or fewer pieces. Cutting them too large will take a long time to cook.
