Ingredients:
For the dough:
Warm milk: 230ml
Active dry yeast: 3g (1 tsp)
White sugar: 25g (2 tbsp)
Flour: 300g (2 cups)
Salt: 3g (0.5 tsp)
Unsalted butter: 15g (1 tbsp)
For the topping:
Unsalted butter: 1 tbsp
Garlic powder: 1/2 tsp
Parsley flakes: 1/2 tsp (Optional)
Salt: 1/4 tsp
Instructions:
Yeast Activation: In a commodious mixing bowl, pour in 230ml of milk. Introduce 3 grams of dry yeast and 25 grams of white sugar. Whisk them into oblivion and allow them a respite of 5 minutes, during which they’ll work their magic.
Flour Fusion: Once your yeast mix has had its rest, usher in 300 grams of flour, followed closely by 3 grams of salt. With a spatula as your aide, mix fervently until a union is formed. Though this union will be on the stickier side, fret not, for it’s part of the plan.
Butter’s Grand Entrance: Melt 15 grams of unsalted butter and invite it to the flour party. Keep the spatula moving for an additional 2 minutes, ensuring every bit of butter finds its place within the dough.
The Waiting Game: Cloak your dough with a cloth, whispering words of encouragement as it sets out to prove itself over the next 1-1.5 hours. And it won’t disappoint, for it will grow to twice its size, much like our ambitions.
The Dough Dance: Once risen, the dough, now filled with pride, needs a gentle touch. Deflate it lovingly, transporting it to a floured realm (your work surface). Flatten the dough to a 20×20 cm square and partition it into 60-64 petite pieces.
Shape and Rise: Each petite piece is now cradled in flour-dusted hands, shaped into a ball, and placed in a baking pan. Their proximity to each other matters, for they find comfort in closeness. Another round of rest ensues until they double up, ready to face the heat.
Buttery Blanket: As your dough rests, in a separate vessel, melt a tablespoon of unsalted butter. To this liquid gold, add half a teaspoon of garlic powder and a quarter teaspoon of salt, blending seamlessly. Parsley flakes can join this mix, adding a green hue and a hint of flavor. Once the dough rises, this buttery blend graces the top of each bun.
Baking and Beyond The oven, preheated to 350°F (180°C), welcomes the buns for 18 to 20 minutes. As they emerge, golden and glorious, place them on a rack, allowing them to cool and contemplate their journey.
A Sweet Finale: For those with a penchant for sweetness, a brush of honey water on these buns adds the final touch.
