This is the only Sloppy Joe recipe you will ever need! Super easy to throw together and made with real ingredients. This homemade Sloppy Joe has the perfect balance of texture and flavors that everyone loves! It’s an easy recipe ready in 20 minutes!
This recipe is also very versatile. You can easily modify it to your liking. If you are health conscious, you are welcome to use ground turkey in place of beef. Even use BBQ sauce instead of ketchup. If you want your Sloppy Joe spicier, simply stir in some chopped jalapeno. And the list goes on!
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 small green bell pepper, diced
1 small sweet onion, diced
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 c. ketchup
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/3 c. water
2 tsp yellow mustard
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
Toasted buns, for serving
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
How to make Easy Homemade Sloppy Joes
Step 1: In a large nonstick skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef along with the onion and bell pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes, breaking the meat up into chunks using a wooden spoon until the beef is completely cooked and the veggies are tender. Next, add the garlic. Stir and continue to cook for another 30 seconds until aromatic. Then, drain the excess grease.
Step 2: Add the tomato paste and stir until well incorporated.
Step 3: Now, add the ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix well.
Step 4: Put the lid on and continue to cook for another 10 minutes over medium heat until the mixture has thickened.
Step 5: Take the skillet off the heat when done, and serve the Sloppy Joes right away on toasted buns. Enjoy!
