You won’t have to buy pita bread ever again! You can make fresh ones in the comfort of your home. This recipe is a step-by-step process that will help you achieve perfection. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 tsp (4 g) instant yeast
165 g (scant 3/4 cup) lukewarm water
2 c (256 g) all-purpose flour, plus more for sprinkling
1 tbsp (14 g) olive oil, plus more for drizzling
1 tsp (5 g) kosher salt
Directions:
Add instant yeast, flour, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well incorporated. Add oil and water, then stir until well blended.
Use your clean hands to knead until the texture of the dough becomes sticky.
Add a bit of olive oil, then flip the dough and place it into a mixing bowl. Cover it with a tea towel. Let it rise in a warm area for 1 1/2 hours.
Place baking steel in the oven and heat at 550 degrees F.
Slice a sheet of parchment paper into 6-inches squares.
Sprinkle flour onto a flat surface, then place the prepared dough on it. Knead the dough into a ball. Slice it into 6 even pieces. Allow the dough to rest for half an hour.
Use your hands to flatten one piece of dough and roll it to about a 6-inch circle. Place it over a sheet of parchment paper and allow it to rest for 15 more minutes. Repeat the process with the rest of the dough.
Place dough in the preheated oven and bake them for about 2 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Remove from the oven. Enjoy!
Notes:
Place leftover pita in an airtight container, then put it in the fridge or freezer. It can last up to 3 months. Reheat for a few minutes before serving again.
