Satisfy your pasta cravings with this easy homemade Hamburger Helper. The ground beef is sauteed and smothered in a deliciously creamy tomato and cheese sauce. An amazing one-pot dish you can make at any time. I love serving this with a side salad or some steamed/roasted broccoli. Although, this hamburger helper is already filling enough on its own and does not require any sides.
Ingredients
1 large yellow onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp seasoned salt
2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
2 c. (8 ounces) pasta shells (or use elbow pasta)
½ c. heavy cream
2 c. low sodium beef broth
1 8-ounces can of tomato sauce
salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
How to make Homemade Hamburger Helper
Step 1: Brown the ground beef in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Set the cooked ground beef aside, leaving 2 tbsp of grease in the pan.
Step 2: In the same pan, saute the onion for about 5 minutes until tender. In the last 30 seconds, add the garlic. Then, stir in the flour and cook for another minute, gradually stirring in the beef broth. Bring the mixture to a boil.
Step 3: Next, add the tomato sauce along with the Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and pasta. Mix well. Put the lid on and cook for about 12 to 15 minutes until the pasta is cooked, stirring often.
Step 4: Now, stir in the cream and cheese until melted. Return the ground beef to the pan and cook for additional 2 to 3 minutes until heated through.
Step 5: Remove from the heat and serve the Hamburger Helper right away. Enjoy!
Notes:
You can add a bit of water or beef broth if you need more liquid for the pasta.
In this recipe, you can use another type of pasta. Just make sure it is a similar size for the liquid ratio to work.
