This sausage gravy has become one of our favorites. A weekend staple that my family is always looking forward to. Super easy and quick to make using just a few simple ingredients that you might already have on hand. We love serving this delicious gravy over homemade biscuits, English muffins, or toast for a mouthwatering meal excellent any day!
I love how simple this recipe is. The gravy always turned out delicious. The best part is I can make this gravy 4 days in advance. I simply keep it in the fridge and rewarm it on the stove with an extra splash of milk when ready to serve. To make this gravy, I use pork sausage, but you are welcome to use ground turkey sausage instead. You can even make this gluten-free by swapping out the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free 1-to-1 baking mix and using gluten-free biscuits.
Ingredients
3 ½ c. whole milk
1 lb bulk pork sausage (ground breakfast sausage)
1/3 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp dried thyme
¼ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp ground black pepper
How To Make Sausage Gravy
Step 1: To a hot large saute pan, add the sausage. Cook over medium heat while breaking into small pieces using a wooden spoon until browned.
Step 2: Add the flour once the sausage is completely cooked along with the thyme, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir well, allowing the flour to absorb the grease. Stir and continue to cook for 2 minutes more.
Step 3: Stir in 3 c of milk and let everything simmer until the gravy has thickened.
Step 4: Turn the heat off once the gravy is very thick and smooth. You can pour in another half c. of milk if the gravy ends up too thick.
Step 5: Serve the sausage gravy over warm homemade biscuits, toast, or English muffins. Enjoy!
