I love this Italian sausage, peppers, and onions recipe. This is a simple recipe that guarantees a delicious meal! And it’s a flexible recipe that comes together in a snap and can accompany a large meal. This is also great to serve as the main dish with a couple of side dishes such as Italian bread, macaroni salad, pasta salad, tomatoes, olive oil, etc.
This dish can easily be put together in just forty-five minutes from start to finish! This has been one of my family’s favorites for years. The best part is this recipe is pretty versatile. You can swap the ingredients to suit your taste. You are welcome to use either sweet Italian sausage or regular Italian sausage. Even pork sausage! Or you can make a simple variation that is a little healthier, you can use chicken or turkey sausage instead. If you love a pop of colors, you can also add in yellow, orange, or red peppers, keeping in mind that these peppers are sweeter compared to green peppers.
1 package sausage
1 onion chopped in large chunks
2-3 green peppers, chopped
How to make Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions
Step 1: Thoroughly wash the peppers, then cut them into strips.
Step 2: Fry the peppers in olive oil over medium-high heat for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then, add the onion.
Step 3: Set the peppers aside.
Step 4: Fry the sausage in the same pan until brown and completely cooked.
Step 5: In an oven-proof baking pan, mix everything. Place in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes at 375 degrees F or until the internal temperature of the sausage reaches 165 degrees F.
This recipe is excellent for picnics and cookouts!
Pair this dish with Italian bread, macaroni salad, pasta salad, tomatoes and olive oil, bruschetta, salad, spinach, grilled vegetables with balsamic vinegar, roasted potatoes, and potato salad.
