These bad boys are so good! They are perfect to serve pretty much any time of the day. Oh, man, you are so in for a treat. Enjoy!
1/4 c extra-virgin olive oil
1 lb sweet Italian sausage
2 bell peppers, sliced
2 yellow onions, sliced
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
1/4 c chopped fresh basil leaves
4 garlic cloves, chopped
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 c Marsala wine (or chicken broth)
1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes
Salt to taste
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes, optional
Step 1: Place a large heavy skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Step 2: Add in oil and allow it to become hot.
Step 3: Add in the sausages and cook on both sides for 10 minutes or until brown.
Step 4: Remove the sausages from the skillet and drain any excess grease.
Step 5: In the same skillet with the same heat, add in the Italian seasoning, garlic, and basil. Cook for another 2 minutes or until just hot.
Step 6: Add in the tomatoes, tomato paste, Marsala wine, and chilli flakes. Stir until well combined.
Step 7: Add in the onions, peppers, salt, and pepper, then simmer for a few minutes.
Step 8: Put the sausages back in the skillet as well as the vegetables.
Step 9: Adjust the heat to low and simmer for another 15 minutes or until the texture of the sauce becomes thick.
Step 10: Serve and enjoy!
1. You can serve these sausages over noodles, mashed potatoes, rice, or polenta.
2. You can also make sandwiches out of them. Slice the sausages lengthwise and you are good to go.
