Stromboli is a classic Italian dish that you can easily make at home. It is delicious and incredibly easy and quick to throw together using just a few simple ingredients. This homemade Stromboli is one of my favorites! It makes an amazing meal and can also be a great appetizer or munch on during game days.
Ingredients
1/4 pound sliced pepperoni from the deli counter
1 pound of frozen bread dough or 1 lb of prepared pizza dough
1/4 pound sliced capicola from the deli counter
1 1/2 teaspoons of pizza seasoning
1 1/2 c. freshly shredded mozzarella cheese
marinara sauce for dipping (optional)
1 egg + 1 tablespoon water mixed (optional)
How to make Stromboli
Step 1: On a large baking sheet, place the dough and cover using plastic wrap. Place in the fridge to defrost the dough for 8 to 8 hours or overnight. Then, allow the dough to sit for an hour or two more before assembling. If desired, you can also use prepared pizza dough.
Step 2: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 400 degrees.
Step 3: Lightly dust a large working surface and rolling pin. Roll the dough out into an 8x 13-inch long triangle. On top of the dough, layer the pepperoni. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the cheese and 1 tsp of the pizza seasoning. Lightly season with salt and pepper.
Step 4: When done, roll the dough tightly like a jelly roll, tucking the ends and pinching to seal. To help them seal, you can also brush the edges using egg wash.
Step 5: Using nonstick cooking spray, grease the baking sheet. To the pan, transfer the Stromboli and brush with egg wash (if using). On top, sprinkle the rest of the pizza seasoning.
Step 6: Bake in the prepared oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven when done and let it sit for about 1 to 2 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!
