Ingredients:
Sauce
1 pound Italian sausage mild or spicy, casings removed
3/4 pound ground beef extra lean
1 small onion chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
28 ounces crushed tomatoes 1 can
6 ounces tomato paste 1 can
8 ounces tomato sauce
1/2 c water if needed
1 tablespoon sugar
4 leaves basil chopped
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
1/2 teaspoon black pepper or to taste
1/4 c fresh parsley chopped
Cheese Mixture
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1 large Egg
2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
Lasagna
12 lasagna noodles oven ready
1 pound mozzarella cheese fresh, grated
1 c Parmesan cheese freshly grated
Directions:
1. Place a skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
2. Add the beef, sausage, garlic, and onion. Stir and cook until brown.
3. Add the remaining ingredients for the sauce and stir until well mixed.
4. Cover and simmer everything for about 1 1/2 hours. Make sure to stir from time to time.
5. In a mixing bowl, add egg, ricotta, and parsley. Stir until well mixed.
6. Prepare the oven and preheat to 190 degrees C or 375 degrees F.
7. Spread 1 1/2 cups of the meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
8. Put 4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
9. Spread half of the ricotta mixture on top of the lasagna noodles.
10. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the ricotta mixture layer.
11. Repeat the process until everything is arranged in layers. Top everything with the cheeses.
12. Cover the baking dish with aluminium foil and apply cooking spray to it.
13. Place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes.
14. Remove the cover and bake for 25 more minutes or until the cheese turns brown.
15. Remove from the oven and allow the lasagna to cool for at least 15 minutes.
16. Serve and enjoy!
